The debut of BMW‘s next generation 7-Series that will include an i7 flagship electric sedan is right around the corner, with an unveiling set for 8am EST (2pm CEST) on April 20. The debut was supposed to happen at the 2022 Beijing Auto Show, but the event has been postponed over a COVID surge in the country. Now, BMW has released the stream for the car’s digital reveal, which can be watched below.
The i7 will be revealed alongside the all-new gas-powered 7-Series, and the unveiling will take place on BMW’s social media accounts. Presenting the car will be Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of the BMW Group, and Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW Group Head of Design among other key figures.

Coming as Bavaria’s answer to the Mercedes-Benz EQS, the i7 is certainly more traditional in its proportions than its aerodynamically bubbly competitor. That being said, its styling is anything but traditional, with a massive illuminated kidney grille and split headlights taking center stage in the design that will look a lot like the updated 2023 X7.
Inside, the star of the show is the all-new BMW Theatre Screen, an ultrawide 31-inch display that folds down out of the headliner. However, contrary to Mercedes’ 56-inch Hyperscreen, which takes the place of a traditional dashboard, BMW‘s Theatre Screen places the focus on rear passenger entertainment. It’s also worth noting that the feature won’t be exclusive to the i7, with the company confirming that it would also make its way into its “new top-of-the-range models”.
But it doesn’t just stop there with the interior goodies. Other standout features include the BMW Curved Display that combines the gauge cluster and iDrive 8 infotainment system into one large screen, a special multifunction touch control bar called the BMW Interaction Bar, a Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof with LED light threads, and a new “My Modes” function that synchronizes interior ambiance to the selected drive mode.

Details on the powertrain are scarce, but the latest sources are reporting a 120 kWh battery, as well as a high-performance tri-motor variant pumping out as much as 740 hp (552 kW / 750 PS) in the i7. What we do know so far is that the car will have an EPA estimated range of 305 miles (491 km) and a WLTP estimated range of 580-610 km (360-379 mi).The combined WLTP power consumption will be between 19.7 kWh/100 km and 18.9 kWh/100 km.
It seems only time will tell, and we’ll have to wait until the car’s April 20 debut to find out all the details.
