Though originally the name of a single luxury sedan model in the mid-aughts, Genesis has since blossomed into an entire premium subbrand of the Hyundai Motor Group. By working under its own banner, Genesis Motors has been able to develop its own unique design language and DNA since its launch in 2015. And while it spent its first half-decade simply building a customer base and getting its footing, the high-end Korean carmaker has more recently been showing off its plans for the future via the unveiling of several stunning concept cars — the latest of which has been dubbed the Genesis X Speedium Coupe.
Based on Genesis’ earlier Concept X concept that was unveiled this same time last year, the X Speedium Coupe EV concept is an all-electric grand tourer that’s based on the same platform as its conceptual 2021 predecessor. Created by a design team that was headed up by Genesis’ Chief Creative Officer — and 2022 “World Car Person of the Year” — Luc Donckerwolke, the X Speedium aims to offer Genesis’ signature blend of elegance and athleticism, albeit in an amplified capacity.
Taking its name from the Inje Speedium racetrack located 75 miles east of Seoul, the concept boasts what its creators call an “anti-wedge” design that sees the original Concept X bestowed with more flared wheel arches and a sloping 911-esque fastback rear end. Despite its unmistakably futuristic appearance, the concept still sports a myriad of Genesis’ design hallmarks, with its signature sweeping lines, an evolved take on the brand’s signature twin-line headlight setup, and a revised interpretation of the company’s iconic Crest Grille configuration.
While Genesis hasn’t announced any plans on putting its new concept into production, the X Speedium Coupe nonetheless offers an insightful glimpse into the company’s future lineup, which will reportedly be comprised of half a dozen fully electric models by no later than 2030.
