Welcome back, and in other news. . .
Wenatchee residents are being warned that scammers claiming to be sergeants from the police department are trying to steal their money or personal information.
The Wenatchee Police Department says the scammers claim there is a warrant out on the intended victim or their children and money is needed to clear it up. In what is called spoofing, the person’s caller ID falsely shows the call coming from the RiverCom number. Police say if there is a warrant out for a person’s arrest it must be cleared before a judge.
In another sign that this summer will not be like last summer, The Wenatchee public pool will be lifting most of its COVID-19 restrictions July 5th.
Reservations will no longer be required for lap swims and family swim has been changed to public swim, again with no reservations needed.
Also, the city’s Park Wading Pool Program started Monday, the first time the wading pools have been open since the summer of 2019, and just in time for the heat wave settling into the valley. The wading pools at Washington, Pennsylvania and Kiwanis Methow parks are open Monday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. through August 13th.
With most COVID-19 restrictions scheduled to be lifted at the end of June, organizers of the Fourth of July fireworks show in Wenatchee expect to be a full go for a large event this year.
Last year, the annual Independence Day celebration at Walla Walla Point Park was limited to fireworks but no in-person attendees. Wenatchee Valley Fourth organizers say they’re preparing for a large gathering, with the fireworks show featuring the Wenatchee Big Band. In addition, there will be vendors in the park, a beer garden and entertainment on the main stage.
