What is this wizardry that transforms from a triangular mass into a spacious fold-out cabin on wheels and goes by the name Camp365? Is it a mere delusion, maybe a hologram, a figment of our desirous imagination for a camper that we only wished existed? No. AWOL Outdoors, Inc. 's Camp365 is real, and ordinary people can witness this sorcery.
As trite as it sounds, Camp365 started as a drawing on a napkin and progressed to its production shape in 2018. It's made in the United States at facilities in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, and Albia, Iowa. Although some would consider the camper market oversaturated (think slide-in campers, camper vans, travel trailers, toy haulers, teardrop trailers, pop-up campers, off-the-grid niche trailers, and everything in between), the creators of Camp365 identified some problems with the market and aimed to solve these issues with a compact solution full of hidden magic that just might reinvent the traditional camper trailer.
In its compact, folded-up form, the Camp365 measures 48.0 inches wide and 80.0 inches tall. The unloaded base trailer weight is 1,495 pounds, and the GVWR is 2,200 pounds. Odds are that the car, truck, or UTV with a standard Class 1 trailer hitch currently in your driveway can tow the Camp365, alleviating the need to fork out copious cash for a gas-guzzling dedicated tow rig. The trailer can also likely be stored in your garage (though it seems the clearance could be mighty tight), potentially saving thousands of dollars by not needing to pay for RV storage fees.
When fully expanded, the Camp365 touts a 144.0-inch by 96.0-inch base, which results in 96 square feet of living space. That's enough to house and sleep a family of six, though we suppose those family members need to get along pretty well to make it work. Even the tallest family members can stand up straight and uncramped thanks to 90 inches (7.5 feet) of headroom.
The camper's tough, waterproof, trouble-free synthetic fabric is known as Aqualon. It's also used in other covers and Bimini tops. It won't fade, crack, puncture, rot, or grow mildew. Other materials are aluminum and powder-coated steel.
Thanks to a proprietary lift-assist system, the makers of Camp365 claim it can be set up in 10 minutes, even on uneven terrain. It's seemingly as simple as the GIF above indicates. That's quite an improvement over the setup times of a tent or giant travel trailer.
The Camp365 has many of the integrated amenities of bigger campers. This includes dual-layer air insulation, climate control, a fan, portable stove, stainless-steel sink, a tankless water heater/shower combo, a refrigerator/freezer, a toilet, solar panels, a television mount, propane mounts, queen/twin/bunk bed arrangements, tinted glass windows with screens, a dual-use rear panel/camping table, an awning, a screened porch, a 12-volt battery and 120-volt shore power system, multiple charging ports, and fresh/gray water tanks (12 gallons each).
What's an adventure without bikes, kayaks, or paddleboards? A side-mount toy rack system works with most carriers. There's apparently something in the works for canoes, small boats, scooters, and dirt bikes, too. Additionally, there are ski attachments that mount under the wheels and turn the Camp365 into a sled.
That's a trick question. The rear axle (and hence the wheels) varies in width. It can be adjusted between 48.0 and 72.0 inches with a standard crank. This allows the Camp365 to be super slim when it comes time to store it or travel through tight off-road trails. The adjustability means it can be towed to remote, off-grid locations via an ATV or UTV. There's also an available off-road kit with extra-wide fenders and 14-inch off-road wheels and tires.
We found retail price points for the Camp365 range between $17,995 and $24,995. We're not sure what options those sums include, however. This little camper carries a one-year limited warranty, plus additional warranties for some of its available options.
