We have seen several videos where people are so attached to their pets that they take it wherever they go. Here we have one such video of a dog who likes to travel on a scooter with its owner. The dog belongs to a police officer from Kerala’s Kottayam district. He picked up the puppy from the street 5 months ago and ever since it has been there with Sreekumar and his family. The dog is called Appu and it is a common sight for people living in the area to see a 5 month old puppy sitting as a pillion on a scooter with Sreekumar.
The video has been uploaded by MediaoneTV Live on their YouTube channel. In this video report Assistant Sub-Inspector of Kerala Police Sreekumar is seen travelling with his dog in their Suzuki Access scooter. Sreekumar explains that he had given basic training to the dog and it started following the instructions pretty quickly. After some time, whenever he used to start the scooter, the puppy started showing interest in the scooter and wanted to go with the owner. Initially, this was not entertained but, eventually they tried taking the dog with them once.

He sat in front of the scooter without any issues. From then on, Appu – the dog would accompany the owner on local trips. He is comfortable in sitting at the front and also sitting at the pillion seat. He technically stands with his forelegs on the shoulder of the rider. The owner takes the dog with him only for short trips. Sreekumar mentions that his dog also accompanies them in their car whenever they go out. Initially, the dog was not comfortable but, now it is used to it.
Now whenever he starts the scooter, Appu comes running near the scooter and hops on to it. In the car, they just open the door and he enters. We hope Sreekumar does not take his dog with him on the scooter to public roads. In the past, there have been incidents where Kerala Motor Vehicle Department has taken action against such riders who took their pets with them on public roads. The reason why the Motor Vehicle Department issued fine against rider in the past is because he was riding the two-wheeler without helmet and was also putting the life of the pet dog and other road users in danger by making it sit at the back.
This is not the first time, something like this has been reported. There are several videos available online where pets are seen on a two-wheeler with their owners. In this case Sreekumar mentions that he has trained the dog and he listens to the instruction. At the end of the day, it is just an animal and they can be pretty unpredictable at times. Travelling with a dog on the pillion seat can make people turn their heads on the road and this can even distract other motorists as this is not something that we see normally on our roads. Currently there is no law that allows animals to travel on pillion seat on a two-wheeler.
