Nine people were hurt, including three who were rushed to hospitals, after a three-vehicle crash that included a Sonoma County Transit bus on Wednesday morning in Rohnert Park, authorities said.
The crash happened just before 11 a.m. at the intersection of Rohnert Park Expressway and Commerce Boulevard.
Drivers were routed around the site for about an hour and a half as police investigated and paramedics treated the injured.
There were between 14 and 16 people on the bus when the crash happened, according Rohnert Park Police Lt. Jeff Nicks.
Two people on board were rushed to hospitals, including the driver, whose injuries were described as moderate, and a woman with minor injuries, Nicks said.
In addition to the bus, the crash involved a Chevrolet Silverado pickup and a Ford Edge SUV.
The man driving the pickup was severely injured and taken to a hospital, Nicks said.
The six other people who were hurt were evaluated by paramedics and were either treated at the scene or taken by loved ones to hospitals for minor injuries, according to Nicks.
Authorities investigating the crash believe the man driving the pickup was going south on Commerce when he drove through the intersection and veered into the northbound lane, hitting the bus, which was stopped, according to Nicks. The SUV involved in the crash was stopped in the lane next to the bus, he said.
Nicks said police were looking into the cause of the crash, and were working to determine whether the pickup went through a red light. Investigators planned to review surveillance video footage from the bus Wednesday afternoon.
The crash warranted the arrival of five ambulances, three firefighting vehicles, four police vehicles and more than a dozen police and fire personnel.
Passengers were treated on the sidewalk in a triage clinic set up in events of “mass casualty incidents,” Nicks said.
Authorities finished cleaning up the crash and reopened all lanes by 12:30 p.m., according to Nicks.
