Compact SUVs and subcompact family SUVs are all the rage right now, which is why there are four options on the Good Housekeeping list. The 2022 Mazda CX-30 topped the list for the best subcompact SUV. The CX-30 has room for five, seven trim level options, and a combined fuel economy of 26 mpg. Plus, it has a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and it is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+.

The 2022 BMW X2 stood out from the crowd for a luxury subcompact SUV option. The X2 has five seats and three trim levels to choose from.
