The Skoda Slavia and Kushaq, though a sedan and SUV respectively, are very similar animals underneath their skin. They are based on the same MQB-A0-IN platform, get the same wheelbase, and most importantly, the same brilliant and fun-to-drive TSI engine options. So that should theoretically mean the same numbers when it comes to performance and fuel efficiency, right?
Well, that’s what we are going to find out in this comparison report. And to keep things fair and square, both models in this test get the 150PS 1.5-litre TSI mill, coupled with a 6-speed stick shift.
Which One Is Quicker?
Acceleration | Slavia | Kushaq |
0-100kmph | 9 seconds | 9.25 seconds |
30 - 70kmph in 3rd gear | 6.69 seconds | 7.67 seconds |
40 - 100kmph in 4th gear | 12.34 seconds | 11.76 seconds |
Lights out and away we go, and it’s the Slavia that gets off the line quicker as the engine allows for a harder launch. From there, the Slavia keeps a small lead from the Kushaq, and crosses the line just 0.25 seconds ahead of the SUV. The fine differences boil down to the fact that the engine tuning is slightly different as are the gear ratios.

Even in roll-on acceleration, the Slavia’s slightly shorter third gear means it’s almost a second quicker in the 30-70kmph run. However, the tides aren’t in the Slavia’s favour in the 40-100kmph run, due to a taller fourth gear.
Which One Is More Frugal?
| Slavia | Kushaq |
City | 13.04kmpl | 12.99kmpl |
Highway | 18.66kmpl | 17.52kmpl |
The difference between both the cars in the city is just a whisker apart. On the open road, though, the Slavia manages to better the Kushaq by just over a kilometre. Both models get cylinder deactivation tech, which puts them into two-cylinder mode under light load for improved fuel economy.
