Owning a car from one of the most coveted luxury brands is still a dream for a majority of the Indian audience. The high and intimidating price tag of the luxury cars from brands like Mercedes Benz, Audi, BMW, Jaguar-Land Rover and Volvo is the first deterrent for a common man in the way of fulfilling his dream of owning one. However, thanks to the huge used car market of India, which is one of the biggest in the world, one can fulfil his dream of owning a luxury car at a fraction of the price of a new one. One such car is the Mercedes Benz A-Class shown here, which costs less than a brand new Hyundai i20!
In an advertisement posted by a Delhi-based used car dealer ‘Delhicarz’, a red-coloured 2013 Mercedes Benz A180 Sports hatchback is available for just Rs 9.35 lakh. The sub-10 lakh price of this A-Class makes it more affordable than the top-spec Hyundai i10. The A180 mentioned here has a reading of 67,000 km in its odometer and gets a diesel-automatic powertrain under its hood.

This eight-year-old Mercedes Benz A180 is currently with its second owner and comes with features like paddle shifters, a free-standing infotainment system, multi-functional steering wheel, projector headlamps with daytime running LEDs, LED tail lamps, cruise control, multi-spoke alloy wheels, height-adjustable front seats, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, multi-functional steering wheel and powered outside rearview mirrors.
However, this is not a top-spec variant, due to which it misses out on many modern features like automatic climate control, push start-stop button, sunroof and rear AC vents. All of these features are present in the top-spec Hyundai i20. However, the snob value of the three-pointed star badge can make this Mercedes Benz A180 more desirable than a new i20 for many buyers.
Diesel engine
The powertrain present under the hood of this Mercedes Benz A180 Sports is a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which makes 108 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque. This engine is paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, with the gear changer placed behind the steering wheel. There are three different drive modes on offer – Sports, Economy and Manual Paddle Shift. The used car dealer has claimed that the powertrain of this car returns a fuel efficiency of 15-17 km/l.
The car here is complete with ceramic coating and 7D floor mats. As claimed by the dealer, the A180 Sports here is in its original paint shade of red and has its full insurance valid till June 2022. However, before buying this car, one must keep in mind that it will not be valid for use on the roads of Delhi after September 2023, given Delhi’s government policy of using a diesel car in Delhi for not more than ten years.
This Mercedes Benz A180 might look like a compelling buy above a higher-priced Hyundai i20. However, the buyers, especially the first-timers, should be aware that such cars have a higher cost of ownership due to more expensive spare parts and service costs.
