Sadly, I need to do some maintenance on my deck – some of the timber is rotting and needs to be replaced. But how do I get the 2.4 metre lengths home from Bunnings?
Expecting to have to hire a ute, my wife and I went to Bunnings, and lo and behold, the timber fits into our Tesla Model 3. Who needs a Cybertruck when I can cart this stuff in my model 3.I posted the pictures to FaceBook and was amazed at the reactions I got.
“Tess seems to like showing she can be a workhorse too,” said one. Many were worried about an impact on the screen – see photo below – if I braked too suddenly – or worse, the car did it for me. “Go on, phantom brake now, Tess … I dare ya,” said another. It might end up on top of that huge screen. I’m not sure if it’s strong enough to support the weight.
Here are some other reactions:
“Not heaps smart, I you hope secured them not to move (no I didn’t – she’ll be right mate), auto breaking slams on breaks, timber straight into that screen, I’d hate to think what the replacement cost would be.”
“The wife loaded some turf in the back of our 3 the other day, had no problems fitting it in, although I’m glad I had a tub liner installed!”
Another friend carted a dishwasher in the back of his Model S, leaving the boot lid open: Could have closed the tailgate if we took it out of the box. However there are no tailpipe fumes to worry about so drove home like this no problem. (see photo)
A real independent used his car to help clean up after the devastating bushfires:
Carried all this in the car to an off grid work site last year then used the car and solar blanket to charge 100aH Li batteries to charge Ego mower, chain saw and brush cutter to clear up site after bush fires as well as run fridge and camp lights and fitted 12V outlet in frunk. Also slept in car on Camp mode on S. Coast NSW for 5 nights, this was winter. That then leaves enough charge to drive out to Supercharger at Narooma. (see photo).
When the wife takes the ute: I had 220 kg of concrete bags in mineon the weekend cause the wife needed the ute for other stuff
Leaf owners joined in:I’ve fit 1800×900 sheets of MDF and a full-size 3 draw filing cabinet in the LEAF before. I LOVE the size of the hatchback.
And an MG ZS EV: “I put a 1860 length x 900 wide of ply into my MG ZS EV….took a couple of goes to get the sheet in properly by myself but got there in the end.”
It’ll get even better when the Model Y gets here!
